The evolution of technology in recent decades pushes our understanding of ourselves and the world to the edge. 3-D printing can be a versatile tool in parts and organ creation. Future exploration missions will teach us more about our celestial neighbors. A century ago the commodities we take for granted today could be described as science fiction, a century from now it will all be possible through the groundwork we lay today. Our future will hold similar problems to the ones we have now. Famine, pollution, overpopulation, endangerment of life and basic domestic issues. An Engineer’s task is to create viable and effective solutions to these problems. They will enforce new laws, standards and create new innovations, as a responsibility to the public. Mechanical Engineers would be on the projects of exploration to solve the mysteries of the cosmos and of the depths of our seas. In industry, creating efficient was to mass produce basic goods to a higher standard of quality. In military affairs, by finding effective ways to keep soldiers safe, and minimizing the loss of civilian life, through weapons, defense and vehicle alteration.

Mechanical Engineering Is the field I’m majoring in and it feels like the right fit. In the professional world, Engineers are in demand, and this subsection gives me the ability to spread into other fields. I was part of the robotics team and the 3-D printing club in my last schools and creativity and ingenuity intrigue me. I have an affinity for math and science because they are logical and formulaic. I would seek challenges to test myself and feel dissatisfied when I wasn’t. I find joy in expressing myself through art and design. Control and discipline mirror the freedom I feel when I make art and are the reasons why I’m minoring in studio art here.

My father and uncle are part of the reason I like engineering. My father repairs whatever he can, re-purposing old junk rather than buying a new one. My uncle repairs things for a living and when I was young he repaired my old Game Boy. I’m a fan of analog music and repair some old cassette players I come across. Replacing belts, soldering wires and adjusting basic parts. My appreciation of analog technology is based on the work put in and how far we have come since. However, my biggest inspiration for following this field is my mother. Continuing her schooling and working nights as an RN nurse, working hard to provide for my family. Shouldering an immense burden, and despite the fact she hates it, she carries on for us. My mother inspires me to be a service to society and to create financial stability for those I love.

I’m not certain of what I want to do in the future, except that I want to give back to the world. To serve the public using my creativity and skill I’d like to work in transit and possibly aerospace. The concept of exploration is fascinating and my desire for efficient service through public transport is great. Breaking new ground while improving what is already there, It’s my dream.
